Caucasian Shepherd Dogs (Ovcharka) — Raised in Alaska

Raised for home.

Denali Ovcharka is a small Alaska kennel breeding purebred Caucasian Shepherds — a livestock guardian breed built for brutal cold, wide country, and quiet loyalty. Health-tested parents, careful placements, nationwide shipping.

Know the breed

This is a genuinely large dog.

Caucasian Shepherds were developed in the mountains of the Caucasus to guard flocks against wolves and bears, alone, in deep snow, for days at a time. Most first-time owners underestimate the size and coat until they meet one. Here's how an adult male compares to an average person.

Origin & Temperament

An old breed, largely unchanged.

The Caucasian Shepherd — Ovcharka in Russian — has worked the Caucasus mountains for centuries, guarding livestock against predators without close human direction. That history shows up in the temperament: independent, territorial, deeply loyal to its own family, and reserved with strangers.

This is not a breed for a first-time dog owner or an apartment. It's a breed for people who want a serious, capable guardian and are willing to put in the training, containment, and socialization that a 100+lb livestock dog requires.

Our Story

From Montana to the wild.

We're a Montana family who traded the Rockies for something even wilder. Four years ago, we packed up and moved to Alaska to chase a dream we'd had for as long as we can remember: build an off-grid cabin, start a farm, and really live off this land.

Out here, the days are full — fishing, hunting, hiking, swimming, and mostly just being outside with our kids and our animals. There's no better classroom than a farm in the Alaskan wild, and no better way to raise a family than surrounded by mountains, goats, and a whole lot of mud.

Twelve years ago, back in Montana, we brought home our first Caucasian Shepherd — Blue — and we were hooked for life. There is no better dog to have at your side out here. Bears, wolves, mountain lions — the threats are real and they don't knock first. You need a dog that's always watching, always ready, and completely devoted to your family.

That's Kokanee. She's gentle enough that our kids climb all over her like she's a piece of furniture, and obedient and easygoing with the people she loves. But step onto our land as a stranger, or as prey she doesn't recognize, and you'll meet a very different dog. She's constantly aware of what's moving around our property, and she gives us something you can't put a price on: peace of mind. She'll warn us long before we ever see a threat — and if it comes down to it, she won't hesitate to protect us.

This is the kind of dog we breed. Steady with family, fearless with everything else.
